2024 American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) ADA Celebration

AAPD’s annual ADA Celebration to recognize the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) connects community, celebrates disability advocacy and culture, and creates disabled joy. The highlight of this year’s ADA anniversary celebration will be a panel centering the stories of disabled advocates of color who participated in the Capitol Crawl and who have continued to fight to advance disability rights and justice since the passage of the ADA.

The Caravan for Disability Freedom and Justice 2024: St. Louis Stop

Thursday, August 8, 5:00 pm through Sunday, August 12

A six-month, cross-country caravan celebration the disability community and civil rights.

The Caravan is traveling the country from April through October to celebrate local disability rights movements, alongside educating our peers on our history and encouraging them to be a part of their future through voting. Presenters will talk about the current state and federal issues facing people with disabilities.  There will also be links to other efforts around the country all working to move the disability platform forward. The goal is to make it easy for people to become informed, get connected, get involved, and ready to vote in November.

  • STL Metropolitan Alliance for Reliable Transit (SMART) Meetings are at 6 p.m. on Thursdays, and the focus is on building the power that we need to hold the Bi-State Development Corporation accountable to provide light rail, buses, and Call-A-Ride services that meet the needs of people with disabilities in St. Louis City and County.

  • Inclusive tours and classes at Missouri Botanical Garden The Garden offers free tours with ASL and audio description, as well as specialized tours for people with memory loss and their families (in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Missouri Chapter). Inclusive classes at the Garden, Shaw Nature Reserve, and Butterfly House are also on the 2024 summer and fall schedules. Summer class registration is open now; fall class registration opens August 1, 2024.
