The Informant: The $28 Lululemon Boxers That Are Worth Every Penny

I hate learning that expensive stuff is worth the money.

A lot of times, the product at the higher price point feels like a scam. From conditioner to tote bags to probiotic soda — the most expensive options all feel artificially inflated by marketing and snazzy packaging. I thought the same went for underwear. I’ve never really been the type to spend a lot of money on that category — that is, until I snagged Lululemon’s Always In Motion 5-Inch Boxers on sale a few months ago.

I regret to inform you that I love them.

The Always in Motions run about $75 for a three-pack, which makes them more expensive than any other boxer briefs I own. (The others in my rotation include Kirkland’s Signature Boxer Briefs from Costco, this set from Hanes, and Calvin Klein’s Cotton Classics Boxer Brief Pack.) The Always in Motions are my favorite because it feels like I’m barely wearing them — they’re extremely accommodating, as opposed to other underwear, which can get uncomfortable if you’re stuck between sizes.

They’re also comfortable in whatever weather, despite being very shapewear-like; they’re extremely breathable, which should be expected of anything that Lululemon makes. I’d say that the Calvin Kleins are a close runner-up, but the Lululemon set makes the extra dollars worth the splurge.

And then there are the colors, which are great — particularly if you have an occasion to show them off. (A date, modeling for a figure drawing class, sleepwalking through Central Park — you decide.) The skin tone-colored hues are really nice, but the more adventurous colorways — e.g. “Jumie Stripe Cyber Violet Grape Thistle” — stand out from anything else in my underwear drawer. They’re like a more luxe, more comfortable version of the Savage x Fenty boxer briefs, or the Second Skin line from Tommy John. They’re slightly more expensive than the ones from Kim Kardashian’s Skims brand, but look more sexy and sophisticated.

In my mind, it’s a worthy value at $28 a pair. Sleepwalk knowing you’ll look good.
