Research

Welcome to the FACESYNTAX Social Psychophysics lab!

Our research team aims to understand human social communication – that is, how people transmit and decode complex signals such as dynamic facial expressions for social interaction, with particular focus on cross-cultural communication. Central to these research questions is examining the influence of knowledge and concepts, shaped by culture, on visual perception, particularly of social signals. Our approach is interdisciplinary, combining traditionally distinct fields, such as psychophysics, social psychology, information theory, and social robotics.

This project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (grant agreement No. 759796). See also Funders tab for additional source of funding that have supported our research.
