We are all looking how we can reduce our plastic packaging consumption Rest assured many companies are trying hard to achieve this for our future packaging needs; Courtesy BioPlastPom: Sustainable alternative to plastic Bio Plast Pom, in collaboration with Gdańsk University of Technology and other scientific institutions in Poland, has developed NOPLA. This is a compostable and biodegradable material based on potato starch. The main goal of NOPLA is to reduce environmental impact, limit CO2 emissions and increase energy efficiency. The material is protected by patents and is distinguished by the absence of synthetic components, which means it does not contribute to microplastic pollution when decomposed. NOPLA is specifically designed to be biodegradable and compostable in a variety of environments, such as household compost heaps and natural waters. It meets EN 13432 standards with a decomposition period of 3 to 6 months under domestic composting conditions. In addition, it complies with the EU Directive 904/2019 SUP, making it suitable for the production of items such as cutlery and straws. It has also been verified for food contact by the Polish Institute of Hygiene. NOPLA production has a much lower carbon footprint of 1.7 kg per kilogram compared to conventional polypropylene. In addition, it uses approximately 30% less energy, resulting in lower carbon emissions and operational costs. NOPLA biogranules are suitable for various production processes without the need for chemical additives. This makes it a sustainable alternative for producers who strive to minimize environmental impact. Furthermore, this innovation avoids the recycling fees charged on plastic products in Europe. Production of NOPLA started in May 2023. #plastic

*Po polsku w treści postu Warszawskiego Food Labu* I am very pleased to announce the launch of our campaign "no waste. food co-op" within the framework of our Warszawski Food Lab and Food Trails. 🥗 What is it about? 🍱 While conductings empirical field research, analyses and workshops with multidiciplinary experts on reducing food waste in small restaurants, we discovered that one of the areas we can intervene as a city is the redistribution of food supluses. Indeed, due to the fragmentation of the Polish law regarding food waste, it is unclear for most of restaurants owners in which way they can legally give away their food surpluses.
