Sixers to waive former second-rounder Paul Reed after four seasons

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia 76ers are in the middle of making roster moves as they prepare to make another run at the title in the 2024-25 season. They swung for the fences with the big Paul George addition and now’s the time to make the right moves around their new Big 3.

The Sixers were able to bring in key pieces such as Andre Drummond, Eric Gordon, and Caleb Martin. They also lost some pieces from their past as the roster undergoes this current upheaval.

Paul Reed, a second-round pick in 2020, will be waived. His contract was non-guaranteed for the 2024-25 season so this is a move that isn’t necessarily surprising. He averaged 5.1 points and 4.2 rebounds across his four seasons with the Sixers.

Reed played all 82 games in the 2023-24 season and averaged 7.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists as he filled in while Joel Embiid was out with the injury. Unfortunately, he had a tough showing in the playoffs as he averaged only 1.5 points and 2.7 rebounds. He will now look for another opportunity elsewhere.
