Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys, founded in 1960 by Clint Murchison Jr., struggled initially but quickly rose to prominence under head coach Tom Landry, making their first playoff appearance in 1966 and winning their first Super Bowl in 1971. They earned the nickname "America's Team" in the 1970s after winning their second Super Bowl in 1977. The 1980s saw consistent playoff appearances but no additional championships. In 1989, Jerry Jones bought the team, fired Landry and hired Jimmy Johnson out of the University of Miami as the new head coach. The Cowboys won three Super Bowls in the 1990s (XXVII, XXVIII, XXX), establishing a new dynasty. The first two – back-to-back – came under Johnson but his fractured relationship with Jones finally came to a head, and the tandem decided to part ways in March 1994. Barry Switzer took the reins and led Big D to a third title in four years in his second year on the sidelines. The 2000s and 2010s featured mixed success, highlighted by the Tony Romo era and the opening of AT&T Stadium in Arlington in 2009. The quarterback guided Dallas to six playoff appearances, registering a 2-4 mark and never getting beyond the divisional round. Recently, with head coach Mike McCarthy and stars like Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott, the Cowboys remain competitive. The team is known for its large fan base, significant cultural impact, and numerous Hall of Famers, solidifying its legacy in NFL history.
Coming off of a NFC East title and a 12-5 record but a disappointing playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers at home in the Wild Card round last season, it may be a make-or-break 2024-25 for McCarthy and Prescott in Big D. Regular season tickets are available from Sports Illustrated Tickets, grab your tickets now on www.sitickets.com. If you are looking for Cowboys seats, tickets can be found for $117.
