Check out Signal Cleveland’s latest video project, “A Ward Tour.”

We kick off the series today with an explainer about Cleveland’s wards. Wards are the political boundaries for city council representation. They often include multiple neighborhoods. Learn more from Service Journalism Reporter Dakotah Kennedy about how the city establishes ward boundaries, and how those boundaries change when population decreases.

Then, settle in and check out some videos I produced this year about Ward 6. Ward 6 includes the Fairfax, Larchmere, Little Italy and Woodland Hills neighborhoods as well as parts of Buckeye-Shaker, North Broadway, Slavic Village, Union-Miles and University Circle.

Cleveland Documenter Kathryn Johnson gave me a tour of Fairfax. Law student Heavenly Aguilar gave me a tour of Larchmere.

Be our tour guide

The name for “A Ward Tour,” as you may have guessed if you love 1990s hip hop, is an homage to the song “Award Tour” from A Tribe Called Quest’s 1993 album “Midnight Marauders.” I took inspiration from the album’s art for the logo and design of the series.

In 2024, Signal Cleveland will be hitting the streets to get neighborhood tours from residents of Cleveland wards. Our very own “A Ward Tour.”

We are asking folks to walk or drive us through their neighborhoods, pointing out their favorite spot to eat, drink or hang out. Take us on a tour. Share interesting facts or pieces of history that make your community a unique slice of Cleveland.
