Whether you have kids in school or not, the education system affects everyone in Greater Cleveland.

We know how important schools are to the health of the community and how important it is for all of us in Greater Cleveland to have trustworthy information about local education. That’s why we are excited to introduce our newest reporter, Michael Indriolo.

Michael is going to cover K-12 education and youth. Michael, a local visual journalist, said he sees his purpose as building relationships as much as reporting news. He grew up in Independence and loved taking photos of friends back in high school. That interest eventually evolved into a career in photojournalism and local news reporting.

Here are some of Michael’s first photos for Signal:

Shannon Yarbrough, a holistic occupational therapist, leads reiki exercises during Ghetto Therapy’s Teens Night.
DJ Dean looks out the window as he and his group members discuss their values during Ghetto Therapy’s Teens Night at the Cleveland Clinic’s Langston Hughes Community Health & Education Center on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.

Outside of photojournalism, Michael dives into renovation projects at his parents’ and friends’ houses. He also loves to hike with his dog, Luna, in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Look for more stories this year related to the proposed Cleveland school levy, youth mental health and the experiences of young people growing up in Greater Cleveland. Read the latest from Michael here.

I lead and support the Signal Cleveland team as we work to flip the traditional news model to better listen to and learn from Greater Clevelanders so that the news and information we publish more accurately reflects the community.
