For me, [education] stories are really important, because who goes to and through college or any route of higher education, not just a four-year degree, really can change their lives along with the lives of their neighbors, family, and friends in the region. So I think everyone should really be invested in higher education reporting.

A message from Amy

I’m Amy Morona, the higher education reporter here at Signal. I have always enjoyed sharing people’s stories, so it’s an honor to be able to do that as a journalist in a place that I love and on a beat that matters to everyone.

Higher education is an important beat because it covers so many areas, including the economy, healthcare and human interest stories. For me, these stories are important, because going to and through college or any route of higher education, not just a four-year degree, really can change people’s lives along with the lives of their neighbors, family, friends and the region.

The biggest audience I’m trying to reach is college students, people who were college students, and those who have thought about being a college student, but I am still figuring out how to make that happen.

I’ve worked in newsrooms at local and national levels. The difference here at Signal Cleveland is we are committed to making this region where we all live a better place. One of the ways we can do that is by telling stories differently. Telling stories with care and telling stories that, quite frankly, other places just aren’t telling.

I am proud to work in nonprofit journalism. It’s important to me, both as a professional and as a human being. This is the future of journalism.

It’s our summer campaign this week. Money raised this week will go toward producing more quality journalism that our city needs and deserves. Help us reach our goal by setting up a $15 monthly gift or by making a one-time donation.
