Who are the Ambassadors?
The Lake Tahoe Ambassador Program is a youth stewardship training program for ages 14-18, with beginning college-level crew leads who also receive introductory leadership and team building experience. Participants interact face-to-face with the public, sharing information about Lake Tahoe’s natural environment and ways to protect Tahoe. During the summer, Ambassadors are stationed at various popular beaches, trailheads, and visitor centers around Lake Tahoe during peak times. In addition, Ambassadors receive training in basic environmental research skills and complete a summer-long research project with a professional mentor, utilizing the data collected on the job.

The role of Ambassadors:
- Motivate and inspire community members and visitors to recreate responsibly while enjoying Lake Tahoe’s parks and beaches
- Share information about ways to recreate in Tahoe, favorite hikes and bike trails, and more
- Model good stewardship by picking up trash, calling city maintenance when trash cans are full, and handing out pet waste bags as needed
- Track observations and interactions with the public using a Citizen Science app
- Present natural history information
- Attend additional trainings outside of public work days on related skills like natural history, trail maintenance, species identification, public speaking, research techniques, and more
Outreach & Education
Providing environmental education and awareness to visitors and residents alike.
Stewardship
Ambassadors attend trainings and build skills, learning to care for Tahoe’s beaches, rivers, and trails and teach others to do the same
Sustainable Recreation
Ambassadors spread messages about sustainable recreation to the public.
Environmental Research
Ambassadors use citizen science tools to collect site data and learn beginning research techniques.
