You’re struggling to advance in your career. What can you do to become more coachable?
All great insights and advice here on listening to coaches, but here is something else to consider and to try. Listening to others is a skill, one that makes you more “coachable”. Let’s amplify that. Listen to yourself. Be a coach for yourself, listen to your client (you!) Observe: How you react to challenges and setbacks, How you prioritise, How you speak to team, How you weigh risks and tradeoffs. Listen in. Note it down in 3rd party. Support. For example, write down “In response to this event, he/she responded this way _____ first. He/she then made a path correction to ___ a week later, resulting in ____. Perhaps, an alternative reaction like ___ may result in a different outcome like___.” The honest self is a coachable self.

You’re struggling to advance in your career. What can you do to become more coachable?
A misconception around the value of coaches and mentors is that they are considered partner problem solvers. Often, people bring problems to their mentors in hope of finding answers and solutions. The right coach brings more questions than answers. They guide you to finding your answers, and not so much providing the answers. They bring perspective and flexibility to how you might frame your world. Mentors and coaches can add breadth and colour to your considerations. The path you take and how you choose to grow is on you.

What is the most effective way to develop teacher identity?
I have delivered lectures on entrepreneurship and climate innovation to various age groups from high school to post grads, and also coach founders at early stages. Here’s what I discovered in my journey. 1. Recognise that school is not education. Delivering content may be the job, but successful teaching is helping students take steps forwards, in breadth or depth. 2. Let students know you too are learning. Of course, embody the learners mentality yourself. Your teacher identity develops further both internally and with your students, when both parties recognise the common goal of personal growth. 3. Be the student you want your students to be. Show curiosity, encourage questions, explore solutions.

DanceXpression - A Deaf Awareness Project
-
Project DancXpression is a community service project that exposed students at HCI to the deaf community. This was communicated by the planning and execution of the 'Deaf Awareness Week', where we conducted a informational Roadshow and free Signing Workshops for students.
Project DX also organised several dance workshops over a week for hearing impaired students from several local schools, introducing the joys of dance to the Hearing Impaired community.
