We were delighted to collaborate with students from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) Design Practice course in taking meaningful steps toward innovation in service design, enhancing #accessibility for individuals with ASD, and making dining experiences more #inclusive! 🤗✨ Guided by our experienced Hear My Voice (HMV) team, a strategic initiative aimed at developing AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) solutions for our students, the NAFA students embarked on research, observational studies, and testing as part of their final-year project. They facilitated the implementation of a standardised visual system at Rainbow Centre Margaret Drive Campus canteen, and co-designed an adapted menu for our new vendor to facilitate smoother communication for our students during meal times to order food independently! 💬👏🏻 We’re always on the search for partners who believe in our mission, and are grateful for those who take extra effort to spend time to understand our needs. Here’s a shoutout to the NAFA team – Gillian, Kai Ting and Yi Sheng – for the wonderful work!  ✊🏻💛

Our annual Learning Day was held last Friday, where our staff had the opportunity to embrace growth together! 🌟 As part of our commitment to continuous improvement and upskilling our staff, we engaged over 20 ICT trainers across our three campuses to conduct hands-on workshops. 👨🏻💻 These workshops introduced staff to exciting tools and apps aimed at enhancing our work. Some of us learned to harness #AI in education with tools like Gemini and Copilot, and others even explored maximising productivity with Google Workspace apps and AppSheet! Beyond the workshops, Learning Day also served as a platform for our passionate colleagues to showcase their impactful initiatives and research studies through a Learning Conference on Zoom. We were truly inspired by innovative projects like gamified social-emotional learning, AAC communicative solutions for our students, and a community mobility training programme—all spearheaded by our talented colleagues. 🤩 The enthusiasm for learning displayed by team RC was truly heartening, and we are excited to continue fostering a culture where continuous learning is not just encouraged but celebrated! ✊🏼🌱

At the recent Redesigning Pedagogy International Conference (RPIC), which brought together over 800 delegates from various countries to exchange research findings, ideas and teaching experiences, Najmunnisa Shaik Alawoodeen, Project Lead and Lead Teacher, and Dawn Patricia Chuan Yu Young, Senior Speech & Language Therapist, presented their findings from Hear My Voice, a strategic initiative aimed at developing communicative solutions for our students. As part of the project, the team implemented the use of an Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) trial kit that facilitates more efficient assessment, trialling, and prescription of AAC systems for our students. We were humbled to be the only representative from the special education sector to showcase our work. It provided a valuable opportunity for educators in mainstream schools to learn more about our efforts to improve access to communications for students with disabilities.

Is he a giant? 🧐 Is he a peach? 🍑 Is he Ribena? 📢 Introducing Berry, who represents our Good Life domain of being included and heard! Berry is one of RC’s six Good Life mascots who stand for our Quality of Life indicators, or domains which guide our multi-disciplinary team in achieving progress for those we serve.    Being Included and Heard means our students with disabilities can express their needs and contribute to co-creating inclusive communities for everyone. It allows them to #advocate for themselves and others. For example, at Margaret Drive School, a recent parent observation week allowed them to experience first-hand how to use specialised communication tools such as Augmented and Alternative Communication (AAC), Information and Communication Technology (ICT) resources, Assistive Technology (AT), and tech-enabled storybooks. All this served for them to better understand how to bring out the voices of their children at home and through engagement.    You too, can play a part in supporting our work. From volunteering to fundraising, there are various opportunities for you to contribute to building #inclusive communities. Check out how we can work together at https://lnkd.in/grQRfEwg
