Malaysia has ranked as the second worst country for work-life balance among 60 nations. According to the 2023 Global Life-Work Index, a study by Remote, a global human resource services company, found that Malaysia was the second worst country among 60 nations with the highest gross domestic product (GDP). Based on their data analysis, Malaysia scored 27 out of 100 and recorded an average weekly working time of 41 hours, with a minimum wage of USD1 (approximately RM5) per hour. So, what 3 lessons should Malaysian employers take away from this? 1. Encourage regular breaks and time off: Foster a culture that respects and encourages taking regular breaks and utilising annual leave to prevent burnout and improve overall wellbeing. 2. Monitor workload and expectations: Ensure workloads are manageable and realistic, and set clear expectations to prevent excessive overtime and work-related stress. 3. Invest in comprehensive health and wellness programmes: Provide access to holistic health support services, including counselling, health screenings, professional guidance, and educational resources for managing personal and workplace issues. In Malaysia, over 2 million adults live with 3 non-communicable diseases. According to the National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2023, over half a million adults in Malaysia live with four non-communicable diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol. And alarmingly, many were not aware of their condition, with: - 2 in 5 unaware they have diabetes - 11.9% unaware they have hypertension - 1 in 2 unaware they have hypertension This is where regular medical check ups are important. 2 in 5 adults in Malaysia did not undertake any health screening for diabetes, hypertension or high cholesterol in the past 12 months, according to the NHMS 2023. At Naluri, we conduct comprehensive employee health screenings pre- and post-programme to establish a health baseline and tailor programmes to address individual conditions. These holistic health screenings include mental and physical health screenings, such as blood tests, blood pressure readings, and mental health assessments. We often get asked: "What does the term 'holistic wellbeing' mean, and why do you do it?" Holistic wellbeing is an approach where multidimensional aspects of wellness are considered. We believe that mental health and physical health are inextricably intertwined, and so, our programmes include a multidisciplinary approach which tackles all interrelated aspects of wellbeing, including mental wellness, physical wellness, workplace performance, and financial wellness. Did you know that depression in Malaysia has doubled in the past 4 years? Findings from the National Health and Morbidity Survey 2023 show that 4.6% of Malaysians aged 16 years and above have reported symptoms of depression. While this may seem like a small percentage, when put to scale, it is equivalent to about a million people in Malaysia. And when considering workplace productivity against this backdrop, the statistics are just as worrying. The average annual cost of health-related absenteeism and presenteeism in Malaysia is approximately RM2.7 million per organisation. So, what can leaders do to tackle these issues? The answer: Provide holistic wellbeing support! It's important to tackle your employees' mental health issues beyond looking at depression solely and include anxiety and stress for a more comprehensive and holistic approach. In the recent Naluri Mental Health Dataset in Southeast Asia, which included risk factors for stress, depression, and anxiety, as well as findings from the Thriving from Work Questionnaire, we found that 6% of employees thriving at work, and the remaining 94% merely coping or struggling. What was the top barrier for preventing employees from thriving at work, you might ask? The lack of ‘psychological safety’ in the workplace. We've highlighted all our findings and top suggestions to effect positive change in your workplaces in our latest booklet: https://lnkd.in/gsNWQCve #NaluriLife #Health #Wellness #Wellbeing #EmployeeWellness #EmployeeWellbeing #CorporateWellness #CorporateWellbeing #Productivity #MentalHealth #NHMS2023 #Malaysia #Depression #Absenteeism #Presenteeism

Leaders, are you aware of the three 'isms' affecting your bottom line? Our research showed that 64% of respondents reported having not worked when they’re supposed to at least once a month. This loss in productivity can translate into a detrimental loss in cost for businesses. But what signs should you look out for among your teams?
