The Dragon Boat Festival (端午节 Duānwǔ Jié) is a traditional Chinese holiday that occurs on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Lunar calendar. The holiday commemorates Qu Yuan (屈原 Qū Yuán) who was the beloved prime minister of the southern Chinese state of Chu (楚 Chǔ) during the Warring States Period, about 600 B.C. to 200 B.C., and is celebrated by holding dragon boat races and eating sticky rice dumplings called zongzi (粽子 zòngzi). Dragon Boat Festival integrates praying for good luck and taking respite from the summer heat.

How can AI advance language learning for children? LingoAce Founder and CEO Hugh Yao shared his thought leadership at the 2024 National Chinese Language Conference hosted by Asia Society Education and Asia Society Northern California. The theme of this year's conference was "Mandarin Education in a Transformative Era," with a special focus on reimagining education with the emergence of AI. In creating the global leader in teaching Chinese online to children in more than 100 countries, Hugh shared 3 ways AI is advancing language learning: 𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐄 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋-𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 𝐏𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐄, 𝐀𝐍𝐘𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄, 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐀𝐍𝐘𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 The advancement in AI technology has made it possible to have context-based conversations. This allows language learners to practice what they have learned from their teachers. It will also make it easier for parents who do not speak the language themselves. Instead of planning playdates or looking for local immersive activities and events, AI will make it possible to help their kids practice in between lessons. 𝐀𝐂𝐂𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐃𝐔𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐂𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐑𝐈𝐂𝐔𝐋𝐔𝐌, 𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐊𝐒, 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐆𝐀𝐌𝐄𝐒 Language learners need constant stimulation in the language they are learning. However, a common challenge is finding enough textbooks, story books, movies, and TV shows that are age- and level-appropriate for students learning another language. What AI can do is make it easier and faster to produce graphics and write text to create those materials. 𝐌𝐀𝐊𝐄 𝐀𝐃𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋 The future of education is personalization. Until now, technologies have not been advanced enough to truly serve every learner and cater to how they learn best. How this plays out is to be developed, but I believe AI will be essential to making adaptive learning a reality at an even lower cost, making learning affordable to all. #AsiaSociety #education #chineselanguage #teachers #AI #edtech

母亲节快乐(mǔ qīn jié kuài lè)! In Chinese Mandarin, "mother" can be called 妈妈(Māma) or 母亲(mǔqīn, more formal). On Mother's Day, we thank all mothers, including our employees, teachers, and parents to our students, for nurturing and educating our Lingo Learners! We would also like to share a famous poem dedicated to mothers. 游子吟 (Yóuzǐ Yín), A Traveler’s Song, was written by 孟郊 (Mèng Jiāo), a poet from the Tang Dynasty. This poem describes an absent son missing his mother from afar. 慈母手中线(Cí mŭ shŏu zhōng xiàn) The thread in the loving mother’s hand 游子身上衣 (Yóu zǐ shēn shàng yī) Makes the clothes for the traveling son. 临行密密缝 (Lín xíng mì mì féng) Stitch by stitch, tight and firm, 意恐迟迟归 (Yì kŏng chí chí guī) She provides for his late return. 谁言寸草心 (Shéi yán cùn căo xīn) Who says the heart of an inch of grass 报得三春晖 (Bào dé sān chūn huī) Can ever repay the sunshine that forever lasts?
