Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Singapore Marks 40th Annual General Meeting The recent conclusion of the 40th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Singapore, held on May 23rd, 2024, at the esteemed The American Club Singapore, was a momentous occasion for the Chamber and its members. Under the leadership of Randall P. (Randy) Quinn, President of the Chamber, and DORYS FIERRO, serving as Executive Director, the event exemplified the chamber's dedication to fostering collaboration, advancement, and growth within the Canadian business community in Singapore. Randy skillfully led the proceedings, presenting key updates, reflecting on past achievements, and guiding on the future direction of the Chamber. His leadership was instrumental in ensuring that the AGM served as a platform for both reviewing strategic planning from the past year and charting the course for the upcoming year. One of the highlights of the AGM was the warm welcome extended to Caroline Berube, the incoming President of the Chamber. Caroline, Managing Partner at HJM Asia Law, brings a wealth of experience, having served as past president, Chair for the 2023-2024 term, and a member of the CanCham Executive Committee for the past 13 years. Her extensive experience and forward-looking vision will undoubtedly bring new perspectives and opportunities for the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Singapore and its members. Additionally, the AGM introduced the new Executive Committee, comprising dedicated individuals who will play pivotal roles in guiding the Chamber forward. Kamran Azim, CFA from RBC will continue as Vice President, and Gustavo Galvis from Export Development Canada | Exportation et développement Canada will serve as Secretary. Amira Berrada from IFC - International Finance Corporation steps into the position of Treasurer, ensuring the financial health and stability of the Chamber. The Chamber also welcomes the Executive Committee for 2024-2025, which includes: HE Jean-Dominique Ieraci - High Commissioner of Canada to Singapore, Allan Weston – Canadian International School in Singapore, Rohan Belliappa – Government of British Columbia, Heather (Ritch) Ungerman – Microsoft, Marlene Lee Han –Kyi Hla Han Ventures, Huijin Kong – LinHart Group, Pavel Bains – MixMob, Nagesh Devata – Payoneer, tim wong – Solace, Todd Handcock – Collinson, David E Wynne – Green Technology Asia and Brenda Wills – Haut-commissariat du Canada à Singapour | High Commission of Canada in Singapore. Canadian ICT Companies Showcase Innovation at Asia Tech x Singapore 2024 🇨🇦🚀 Singapore recently hosted a delegation of over 50 Canadian Information and Communication Technology (ICT) companies and organizations, organized by the Haut-commissariat du Canada à Singapour | High Commission of Canada in Singapore for the occasion of Asia Tech x Singapore 2024. The event served as a platform for Canadian companies coming from Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia to highlight their technological advancements and expertise across various sub-sectors within the ICT industry. Representing Canada's strengths in the ever-evolving ICT landscape, the showcased technologies included diverse areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), cybersecurity, broadcasting, telecommunications, satellite communications, digital transformation, and Next Generation Networks to highlight their commitment to excellence and cutting-edge developments. The Canadian delegation seized the opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities to the local and regional market, establishing connections across Singapore and Southeast Asia, and engage in a series of activities to foster business growth with key stakeholders in the region's ICT ecosystem. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Singapore recently organized a dynamic panel discussion to advance trade and investment relations between Canada and Singapore. Titled "Further Strengthening Trade and Investment Relations between Canada and Singapore," this event drew together distinguished panelists and industry leaders to delineate strategies for fortifying this pivotal partnership.   Including distinguished figures as H.E. Jean-Dominique Ieraci, High Commissioner of Canada to Singapore; Samuel Chan, Vice President, Head of Agrifood and Head of Americas at the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB); and Jason L., Director for International Policy and Engagement at the Singapore Business Federation, the panel delivered invaluable insights into the current landscape and prospective trajectory of Canada-Singapore trade relations.   Under the moderation of Randall P. (Randy) Quinn, Chief Executive of the Singapore Branch and Executive Director of Global Investment Banking, Asia at CIBC, and President of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Singapore 2023-2024, the discussion emphasized the pivotal role of trade and investment ties between the two nations as catalysts for economic growth, employment generation, and mutual enrichment.   Amidst geopolitical complexities, the panelists articulated a shared sense of optimism regarding the prospects engendered by existant agreements such as the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), and Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy. Despite global challenges, the trajectory of trade between Canada and Singapore continues to ascend, laying a robust foundation for future collaboration and innovation.   Central to the discourse was Canada’s Indo-Pacific strategy, which emphasizes the imperative of fortifying alliances with strategic partners like Singapore. Recent high-level engagements between the two nations have reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to augmenting bilateral relations, with a special emphasis on growing sectors such as technology, renewable energy, and agrifood.   Looking ahead, the coming years are crucial for Canada and Singapore to leverage their shared principles and objectives. Navigating the evolving global landscape requires focus on key areas, notably the digital economy and green energy initiatives. Both countries are well-placed to lead in renewable energy and technology sectors, while investing in human capital through educational exchanges fosters mutual understanding.   The panel discussion served to emphasized the resilience and potential of Canada-Singapore trade and investment relations, presenting a roadmap for future growth and mutual prosperity.
