Firstly, hats off to CrowdStrike for taking accountability and responding to what has been a disastrous day. I'm wearing my favorite #rsac swag today "Human Error" in support of the cyber and IT pros that are always trying their best. Rarely does the IT industry make the top headlines of CNN and the NY Times and that's a good thing... One of the debates that will arise from this is whether our global infrastructure is overly-reliant on a small group of technology companies. Historically in #cybersecurity that hasn't really been the case, but CrowdStrike has been on a rapid growth path these past few years and now commands a large share (~23% last quarter) of the endpoint market, which means a mistake like today is widely felt. Moreover, Microsoft is even more entrenched in global enterprise environments. Our cyber lead Matthew Ball once highlighted that a long-tail cybersecurity ecosystem (6,500+ vendors) is good for innovation, and risk mitigation. Today's event adds weight to that argument. I'm considering an alternative view. Does the industry need a giant incumbent; an outright leader? Scalability brings processes and resourcing to help prevent these events, or react (even) faster when they occur. Certainly willing to bring this argument to the table. For cyber pros, the next opportunity to hear about the latest in cyber is at Black Hat , and especially at the Omdia Summit: https://lnkd.in/gtY3jU6c For cyber channel partners, come hear about how CrowdStrike and others are addressing challenges like this at the Canalys Forums: https://lnkd.in/gSABH24r
