Aidha

Non-profit Organizations

An award-winning NPO from Singapore which provides financial literacy for MDWs and local low-income women

About us

Aidha provides financial literacy programmes such as money management, computer literacy, leadership and entrepreneurial skills for migrant domestic workers (MDWs) and lower-income women. We believe in ‘sustainable futures through financial education’ and that every woman should have the opportunity and choice to determine her own future. With every Aidha student sharing her skills with her family and friends, a whole community benefits, making the multiplier effect of our financial literacy programme significant and life-changing. Our impact studies show that by educating one woman, we can help impact nine lives. How to get involved? Our volunteers are drawn from all walks of life and professions, you can find them mentoring a class on Sunday, supporting our campus management staff during the week, or taking on fundraising and research work. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀! On Sunday, we collaborated with fellow nonprofit, Uplifters, to host an inspiring workshop where participants learned effective techniques to overcome obstacles and achieve their personal goals! Attendees also enjoyed a tour of the Aidha campus, complete with delicious curry puffs and cake. A special shoutout goes to Uplifters Founder, Marie Kretz Di Meglio, as well as Charo and Maylene who are Aidha students and Uplifters mentors! Thank you for facilitating this wonderful session and empowering our participants. #aidha #aidhasg

Sri's story is truly inspiring and shows just how strong and determined many domestic workers are in seeking better opportunities abroad. At Aidha, we believe in the power of education to change lives—not just for individuals but for their families and communities too. From all of us at Aidha, we’re honoured to have been part of her journey!

GOODBYE SRI Last week Sri left us for good. Sri’s life story, though heartbreaking, was typical of around 5 million Indonesian domestic workers. With an absent husband, being a sandwich generation, she was forced to leave her children behind to search for a better life in Singapore. When she came into our life six years ago to mind our newborn son, her youngest was just a toddler. To our joy, Sri was quite studious. We enrolled her at Aidha . On her time off, she would study instead of spending her salary having fun. By the time she graduated, she knew how to manage her personal finance, operating Google sheet, using social media for marketing campaign, and writing business proposals. In English. Quite remarkable as Sri came from a remote town, did not complete her secondary education and spoke mostly Javanese. And then time was up. Sri decided not to renew her contract. Were we sad? Absolutely. My son could not stop crying, waving goodbye to his mbak* who had practically nurtured him. Did we regret our decision to educate her? NEVER. Because we could see Sri’s bright future ahead. I could see Sri saying “NO” confidently  to distant relatives who kept asking her for a loan just because she had worked overseas. I could imagine Sri’s impacts on her two daughters. They would pursue higher education instead of marrying young. They would break the cycle of submissive and dependent women. And one day, I hope to taste Sri’s delicious cooking again, this time at her Korean-style cafe in Cilacap where she will offer opportunities to less fortunate women. Just as the African proverb says "if you educate a man, you educate an individual. But if you educate a woman, you educate the whole nation". *MBAK meaning "older sister" in Javanese language #mariskatan #ccpn #education #genderequality #workingmothers #sustainability #storytelling #singapore #singaporelife
