Power of Pockets: Seattle brand 'Point of View' redefines women's workwear

There’ a movement happening in the world of fashion, and at its helm is Aditi Sinha and Sakina Adeeb, the visionary founders of Point of View (POV) in Seattle. POV isn't just another label, it's a mission-driven endeavor set to revolutionize women's workwear, one pocket at a time.

"Point of View is born out of a personally felt and often-discussed-within-closed-circles needs of career women for workwear that is both statement-making, as well as sensible," says Sinha. "As women, we put our professional attire through a lot: hustling to and from our desks, balancing various gadgets with filled-to-the-brim coffee cups and keeping our outfit as crisp for that 6 p.m. happy hour as the 9 a.m. board meeting. But that quest has been elusive so far."

The inspiration for POV stems from a desire to bridge the gap between style and functionality in women's fashion, empowering them to bring their authentic selves to the forefront.

"We want to create a powerful form of self-presentation for all women to show up, feel confident, and perform as their best selves," said Sinha.

"Pockets inequality is a centuries-old form of gender bias," said Sinha. "Only 5% of women's pockets can fit a smartphone, compared to 85% of men's pockets. On average, women's pockets are 48% shorter and 6.5% narrower than men's pockets."

Addressing this inequality isn't just about providing a practical solution, it's about challenging ingrained societal norms. "For centuries, women's clothing has been designed without practical pockets, perpetuating gender stereotypes," said Sinha. "It's time to change that narrative."

"Pockets are important for everyone in the 21st century regardless of gender," Sinha emphasizes. "They represent freedom and convenience, allowing individuals to navigate the world with ease."

From freeing up hands to reducing the burden of carrying bags, pockets play a vital role in modern life. "The joy of having our hands free to take on the world is matched equally by the freedom from unnecessary back and shoulder pain," Sinha adds.

POV's debut collection is a testament to its commitment to functionality and style. "Our lineup features dresses, tops, trousers, blazers, and skirts designed with a detail-oriented approach," Sinha explains. "From non-negotiable pockets to adjustable pant lengths and machine-washable fabrics, every piece is meticulously crafted to meet the real needs of working women."

"We're just getting started, pockets will always be a staple in the POV universe, and we will continue innovating on the confluence of style and functionality. Our mission is to empower women through fashion, and we're excited to see where this journey takes us."
