For the second Challenge Week of the International MBA Program, IE Business School is proud to collaborate with IKEA, the world’s most successful mass market retailer. IKEA, ever striving to improve, has asked our students to deliver creative solutions to the following question,

What should IKEA change internally in order to become a more customer focused company, without changing the core IKEA concept?

Representatives from IKEA will provide a behind the scenes look into the company and explain the motivation behind the challenge before students embark on developing their solutions. Students will also perform field work in an IKEA store in order to gain firsthand insights on how to improve the overall customer experience.

To arrive at their solutions, students will be taken through a journey of workshops designed specifically to create a viable prototype to the challenge at hand. These workshops, developed by service design experts from Work-Play-Experience, are founded in design thinking methodologies that will ultimately assist students in creating innovative service solutions. Between the first and second core periods, you will solve a real challenge through learning and applying Design Thinking techniques, interactive workshops and the input of outside experts. Working in your alternative sections teams will give you the chance to reconnect with your peers with the ultimate objective to come up with creative and out-­‐of-­‐the-­‐box solutions for our Challenge Week collaborator.

We are happy to announce that you will be working with BBVA on finding a solution to the following challenge:

“How might we help BBVA be a better citizen in the interaction with its retail customers in Spain?”

You will explore how BBVA can interact with their customers in a way that will be beneficial to society. Creativity and innovation will be the key in the design of these new and original approaches.

Real solutions require real actions. You are encouraged to speak to people on the street in order to fully understand how retail banking is perceived by society and how interactions with customers can be improved.

On the final day of the week, the Fair, you will be presenting your group solutions to a jury composed by BBVA managers, and IE faculty. You and the other 54 groups will get a chance to display your solutions at a booth that will be a part of the Challenge Week Fair. Additionally, you will have to convince your peers to vote for your project.

It is our hope that this week-­‐long collaboration between IE students and BBVA will lead to a mutually beneficial partnership. We are sure that you will benefit a great deal from this week, and are hoping that you will find a creative side in you, which you have never met before
