This is second Master's Degree Thesis contributed by DocuMental and successfully defended at TalTech. Congratulations to Herman and his supervisor Janek. No doubt DocuMental will bring more successful Master’s and PhD topics in near future! This study aims to evaluate Estonia’s mental health data monitoring capabilities by examining the Estonian Mental Health Survey (EMHS), the National Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, and the potential of a Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) to enhance data collection and integration. Results: The EMHS provides a comprehensive set of indicators for mental health monitoring but lacks components addressing the broader impacts of mental health issues. The National EHR system, Digilugu, primarily uses free-text data entry, limiting its effectiveness for structured data analysis. DocuMental’s CDSS offers significant potential for structured data collection, capturing detailed clinical information and symptoms relevant to mental health diagnoses. The study found a notable overlap between the indicators used in EMHS and the data elements captured by the CDSS. However, integrating this structured data into broader health monitoring frameworks remains a challenge. Conclusions: Estonia's current digital health tools provide a foundation for mental health data monitoring but require enhancements in data structure and integration. Implementing structured data systems within EHRs and utilising CDSS for detailed symptom coding can bridge the gap between clinical practice and research, leading to better mental health outcomes. Collaboration among stakeholders, including healthcare providers, policymakers, and researchers, is essential for these advancements. Possible future directions regarding the topic are discussed.

I hade the joy and privilege to attend Boardman Oy’s morning seminar on anti-corruption, where we discussed the recently published article series on identifying corruption. According to a report by Nordic Business Ethics Initiative, covering Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Estonia, the numbers for ethical misconduct in Nordic - and Finnish - organizations are disturbing. For example, 32% of the respondents have witnessed someone in their organization taking or offering bribes. You can download their report from their website. We also had the honour to listen to Richard Bistrong, interviewed by Anna Romberg, and his lifestory and lessons learnt. Mr. Bistrong was one of those who went down the slippery slope of corruption, ending up in jail, but is now a CEO of his own company and working as an anti-corruption, compliance and ethics consultant. It was extremely interesting to hear from someone with first hand experience on how things start to go wrong and what should be in place to prevent such things from happening in organizations. We also had a talk by Antti Norkela as well as two interesting panels, including one by the authors of the article series. So a very intense, but well organized session to start off the day! The key points I took with me was that of watching out for dangerous reward systems, ensuring psychological safety so that people speak up when facing unethical dilemmas, and focusing on stakeholder risk, not only financial risk. On Monday, we celebrated International HR Day. Congrats to all of us who have been chosen by this field! 😄 About 60 of us gathered in Tartu to hear various presentations on topics relevant to our area. I want to give a shoutout to Janika Aan from Telia, who covered different AI tools we can use in HR and recruiting. For Maris, Reet, and myself, it was the last stop on our new book presentation tour. We briefly discussed what has changed in people management over the last few years and what should be covered in the future. Some ideas for subjects to explore in more detail included how to: ➡ Integrate AI even more into our daily work ➡ Manage intercultural teams, both in the office and remotely ➡ Be more inclusive to different groups of people ➡ Manage companies sustainably and socially responsibly Who knows - maybe the next book won’t be written by us at all, as AI might do all the work to generate it for us. 😅 I guess we’ll find out in 3 to 4 years. Any topics you think should be covered?

The other week, we organized a breakfast seminar in Helsinki: Enhancing enterprise risk management with digital collaboration and AI. If you have ever thought Monday morning is not an ideal timing for a breakfast event think again! I’d like to thank all our guests and particularly our case presenters Tuomas Laine from Purmo Group and Riikka Harjula from PRH for sharing their insights, experiences and lessons learned from collaborative risk management. Here’s a couple of takeaways: ✅ People tend to prioritize immediate risks over more impactful long-term ones. Example was given in dynamic environments like freshly listed companies, where compliance risks may overshadow strategic risks. ✅ The importance of clarifying terminology (which both case presenters brought up). It may for instance be difficult for people to understand how to assess risk impact and likelihood in a particular organisational context at hand. Diverse business units different cultures and personalities also play a role. ✅ The role of AI in risk management can take our analysis to superhuman levels in the coming years. The exponential growth of AI capabilities is super exciting for risk management! With better data analysis comes continually enhanced risk analysis, empowering us to navigate uncertainties with better confidence. It still doesn’t change the nature of risk management at heart. It leaves us risk management focusing more on the question “So what?”. How do we use our resources to mitigate risk even if we have better awareness. However, let's keep it real — AI won't be predicting the future like a crystal ball anytime soon, if ever. Human insight and deliberation in risk management remains irreplaceable. It's also about fostering common understanding and shared situational awareness to seize opportunities and mitigate risks effectively. Today, I had the opportunity to attend a deep-dive seminar organized by Försvarsmakten, FMV - Försvarets materielverk , SME-D, The Swedish Association of Small and Medium Size Enterprises in Defense and Security , and Säkerhets- och försvarsföretagen (SOFF). The seminar covered several crucial areas, including defense service procurement, logistics, army, command systems, aerospace/space, and navy. I participated in discussions on aerospace and navy. A central message from the seminar, especially in light of the current global situation and Sweden's entrance into NATO, is the urgent need for resources. There is a significant opportunity for us in the industry to assist by providing solutions and offers that circumvent lengthy and sluggish procurement processes. It's heartening to see the Swedish Armed Forces and FMV opening their doors to the industry, a notable shift from the past's bureaucratic challenges. It's time to let go of old ways and embrace new possibilities to make swift and innovative progress. The readiness to innovate and collaborate shown at today's seminar is not only necessary but also exciting. Together, we can make a difference. Do we need to NIS2? IMHO this is a baseline for cybersecurity , protecting business critical assets. Is it logical that companies keep building apps on apps without any governance? A hacker doesn’t drive with a digital truck into your cloud walls. He just takes advantage of human behavior. We keep using critical endpoints at home and let the children play on internet with them. Protection slows down, while the mlain job is creating quotes and sending mails?
