Sweden's national center for molecular biosciences
Om oss
SciLifeLab is a Swedish national center for molecular biosciences with focus on health and environmental research. The center combines frontline technical expertise with advanced knowledge of translational medicine and molecular bioscience. SciLifeLab was established in 2010 and appointed a national center in 2013 by the Swedish government. Four additional sites - Lund, Gothenburg, Linköping and Umeå - were appointed in 2021 in addition to the original two in Stockholm and Uppsala. The SciLifelab site in Gothenburg includes units at both the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology and has a strong connection to Sahlgrenska University Hospital. These units are Bioinformatics (NBIS), Centre for Cellular Imaging (with focus on Cryo-EM and Correlative Array Tomography), Clinical Genomics, Chemical Biology Consortium Sweden, OligoNova Hub, Proteomics Core Facility (with focus on Glycoproteomics), Swedish Metabolomics Center and Swedish NMR center.

If you want to learn more about SciLifeLab in just a few minutes - check out this video that was shown at the Facility Forum!
'SciLifeLab itself is nothing but ordinary. What began as a Swedish flagship project has evolved into the European benchmark for national research infrastructures in life sciences’, our international evaluation committee concluded in a recent report. What makes that possible is our community of incredibly competent, skilled, team science oriented and collaborative scientists. 600+ staff scientists, seven cities, ten platforms and 40+ units, supporting researchers from academia, healthcare and industry on 4000+ projects every year. You enable research otherwise not possible! … and to any researcher curious about using our infrastructure — we’d love to hear from you! Read more about our areas of expertise on https://lnkd.in/d5ssgzFB, or get in touch on info@scilifelab.se!

The reports from SciLifeLab to the International Evaluation Committee (IEC) and the IEC's feedback to SciLifeLab from the recent spring evaluation are now published and available on the SciLifeLab web site 👏 !
Every four years, SciLifeLab’s infrastructure is evaluated by an international evaluation committee of experts. This is an important tool to make sure our infrastructure remains at the forefront of rapidly evolving technologies and research domains: “Although platforms are expected to continuously be alert to necessary updates this is the most important tool for SciLifeLab as a national research infrastructure to stay up-to-date and relevant for today’s and tomorrow’s technological needs for life science research”, says Annika Jenmalm Jensen, SciLifeLab Infrastructure Director. https://lnkd.in/dX3rT_UV

We had an amazing three days in Stockholm this week! 😀 🎉 Monday kicked off with an Open House at Campus Solna, where we got tours of the infrastructure units. This was followed by the biannual Facility Forum at Clarion Hotel Sign on Tuesday and Wednesday. Over 400 SciLifeLab colleagues joined this fantastic event. A big thank you to everyone who helped make it possible! 🌺 🏵 🌸

Today SciLifeLab celebrated Olli Kallioniemi, our current director who will soon hand over this important position, with the event "Pathways Uncharted: Navigating the Future of Life Sciences". The infrastructure director Annika Jenmalm Jensen and the co-director Mia Phillipson introduced the event (impersonating a lady bug and a bee, since Olli has used insects as a metaphor for SciLifeLab). There were several great scientific talks and the sessions were moderated by the site directors in Gothenburg and Lund, Elisabet Carlsohn and Markus Heidenblad. At the mingle afterwards there were many more personal talks by people thanking Olli for his great leadership during his years as SciLifeLab director. Elisabet and Markus, together with the site director in Umeå, Linda Sandblad, thanked Olli especially for paving the way for making SciLifeLab truly national by introducing the new sites.
