Warren provides a brief overview of the Tarascan kingdom or empire before the arrival of the
Spanish. He describes it's borders, population, religion, the nobility, some of the theories on
the origins of the Tarascan people and their language, their social customs, decorative arts,
and natural resources. Relations between the Tarascans and the Aztecs are also described.
Most of this book, however, is about the first ten years of the Spanish conquest and rule over
