The rotation of selected globular clusters and the differential rotation of M3 in multiple populations from the SDSS-IV APOGEE-2 survey

L Szigeti, S Mszros, GM Szab…- Monthly Notices of…, 2021 - academic.oup.com
In this paper, we analyse 10 globular clusters in order to measure their rotational properties
by using high precision radial velocity data from the SDSS-IV APOGEE-2 survey. Out of the
10 clusters we were able to successfully measure the rotation speed and position angle of
the rotation axis for 9 clusters (M2, M3, M5, M12, M13, M15, M53, M92, M107). The
comparison between our results and previous ones shows a really good agreement within
our uncertainties. For four of the globular clusters, M3, M13, M5, and M15, we separated the…

ALMA imaging of the M-dwarf Fomalhaut C's debris disc

PF Cronin-Coltsmann, GM Kennedy…- Monthly Notices of…, 2021 - academic.oup.com
ABSTRACT Fomalhaut C (LP 876-10) is a low mass M4V star in the intriguing Fomalhaut
triple system and, like Fomalhaut A, possesses a debris disc. It is one of very few nearby M-
dwarfs known to host a debris disc and of these has by far the lowest stellar mass. We
present new resolved observations of the debris disc around Fomalhaut C with the Atacama
Large Millimetre Array that allow us to model its properties and investigate the system's
unique history. The ring has a radius of 26 au and a narrow full width at half-maximum of at…

[HTML][HTML] Evaluating the sensitivity of SARS-CoV-2 infection rates on college campuses to wastewater surveillance

TE Wong, GM Thurston, N Barlow, ND Cahill…- Infectious Disease…, 2021 - Elsevier
As college campuses reopened in fall 2020, we saw a large-scale experiment unfold on the
efficacy of various strategies to contain the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Traditional individual
surveillance testing via nasal swabs and/or saliva is among the measures that colleges are
pursuing to reduce the spread of the virus on campus. Additionally, some colleges are
testing wastewater on their campuses for signs of infection, which can provide an early
warning signal for campuses to locate COVID-positive individuals. However, a…

Lyman-alpha radiation pressure: an analytical exploration

GM Tomaselli, A Ferrara- Monthly Notices of the Royal…, 2021 - academic.oup.com
We study radiation pressure due to Ly α line photons, obtaining and exploring analytical
expressions for the force-multiplier, MF (NH, Z)= F α/(L α/c), as a function of gas column
density, NH, and metallicity, Z, for both dust-free and dusty media, employing a WKB
approach for the latter case. Solutions for frequency offset emission to emulate non-static
media moving with a bulk velocity v have also been obtained. We find that, in static media,
Ly α pressure dominates over both photoionization and dust-mediated UV radiation…
