Each new edition of" The Intimate Environment" has faced the task of describing the
changing state of both the family and family scholarship. When I began work on the first
edition of this book more than a decade ago, there was already widespread concern about
the family. During this period, traditional family and sex role arrangements were being
challenged by feminists, unmarried people living together as couples, people living in
communes, and the gay movement.
Abstract
Each new edition of" The Intimate Environment" has faced the task of describing the changing state of both the family and family scholarship. When I began work on the first edition of this book more than a decade ago, there was already widespread concern about the family.
