Cosmological Constraints from Measurements of Type Ia Supernovae discovered during the first 1.5 yr of the Pan-STARRS1 Survey

A Rest, D Scolnic, RJ Foley, ME Huber…- The Astrophysical…, 2014 - iopscience.iop.org
We present griz P1 light curves of 146 spectroscopically confirmed Type Ia supernovae
(SNe Ia; 0.03< z< 0.65) discovered during the first 1.5 yr of the Pan-STARRS1 Medium Deep
Survey. The Pan-STARRS1 natural photometric system is determined by a combination of
on-site measurements of the instrument response function and observations of
spectrophotometric standard stars. We find that the systematic uncertainties in the
photometric system are currently 1.2% without accounting for the uncertainty in the Hubble…

Selective vapor-phase hydrodeoxygenation of anisole to benzene on molybdenum carbide catalysts

WS Lee, Z Wang, RJ Wu, A Bhan- Journal of catalysis, 2014 - Elsevier
Vapor-phase hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of anisole over Mo 2 C catalysts at low
temperatures (420–520 K) and ambient pressure showed (1) remarkable selectivity for C–O
bond cleavage, giving benzene selectivity> 90% among C 6+ products,(2) high hydrogen
efficiency for the HDO reaction as indicated by low cyclohexane selectivity (< 9%), and (3)
good stability over∼ 50 h. Methane selectivity increased at the expense of methanol
selectivity as anisole conversion increased, suggesting that the phenolic C–O bond was…

A census of star-forming galaxies in the Z∼ 9–10 universe based on HST+ SPITZER observations over 19 clash clusters: three candidate Z∼ 9–10 galaxies and…

RJ Bouwens, L Bradley, A Zitrin, D Coe…- The Astrophysical…, 2014 - iopscience.iop.org
We utilize a two-color Lyman-break selection criterion to search for z∼ 9–10 galaxies over
the first 19 clusters in the CLASH program. A systematic search yields three z∼ 9–10
candidates. While we have already reported the most robust of these candidates,
MACS1149-JD, two additional z∼ 9 candidates are also found and have H 160-band
magnitudes of∼ 26.2–26.9. A careful assessment of various sources of contamination
suggests≲ 1 contaminants for our z∼ 9–10 selection. To determine the implications of these…

Systematic uncertainties associated with the cosmological analysis of the first Pan-STARRS1 type Ia supernova sample

D Scolnic, A Rest, A Riess, ME Huber…- The Astrophysical…, 2014 - iopscience.iop.org
We probe the systematic uncertainties from the 113 Type Ia supernovae (SN Ia) in the Pan-
STARRS1 (PS1) sample along with 197 SN Ia from a combination of low-redshift surveys.
The companion paper by Rest et al. describes the photometric measurements and
cosmological inferences from the PS1 sample. The largest systematic uncertainty stems from
the photometric calibration of the PS1 and low-z samples. We increase the sample of
observed Calspec standards from 7 to 10 used to define the PS1 calibration system. The…

Quantification of N2O emission pathways via a 15N tracing model

C Mller, RJ Laughlin, O Spott, T Rtting- Soil Biology and Biochemistry, 2014 - Elsevier
A 15 N tracing model was developed to analyse nitrous oxide (N 2 O) dynamics in terrestrial
ecosystems, which build on previous tracing models for the quantification of the main
mineral nitrogen (N) transformations and soil nitrite (NO 2−) dynamics. The N 2 O dynamics
in the model are directly associated with three NO 2− sub-pools. Four pathways for N 2 O
production in soil were considered in the model: i) reduction of NO 2− associated with
nitrification (NO 2− nit→ N 2 O nit), ii) reduction of NO 2− associated with denitrification (NO…
