A strong strand in French prehistoric research, the technological approach to lithic industries
has been developing for some 20 years, notably under the impetus of A. Leroi-Gourhan, F.
Bordes, J. Tixier and their collaborators. Under this approach, lithic artefacts are no longer
exclusively considered as more or less “characteristic" objects to be described and
