This article reviews the history of the treatment of women's sexual problems from the
Victorian era to the twenty-first century. The contextual nature of determining what
constitutes female sexual psychopathology is highlighted. Conceptions of normal sexuality
are subject to cultural vagaries, making it difficult to identify female sexual dysfunctions. A
survey of the inclusion, removal, and collapsing of women's sexual diagnoses in the
