According to many therapy manuals and self-help guides on sexuality, stress is the number
one factor inhibiting sexual desire. However, no sufficient empirical evidence can be found
to support this claim. Since both sexuality and stress are important factors of everyday life
and contribute substantially to health (eg, McEwen 1998; World Health Organization [WHO]
2006), this entry attempts to provide a summary of the current state of knowledge regarding
how sexuality and stress might be intertwined.
