The formation and evolution of planetary systems: Grain growth and chemical processing of dust in T Tauri systems

J Bouwman, T Henning, LA Hillenbrand…- The Astrophysical…, 2008 - iopscience.iop.org
This paper is one in a series presenting results obtained within the Formation and Evolution
of Planetary Systems (FEPS) Legacy Science Program on the Spitzer Space Telescope.
Here we present a study of dust processing and growth in seven protoplanetary disks. Our
spectra indicate that the circumstellar silicate dust grains have grown to sizes at least 10
times larger than observed in the interstellar medium and show evidence for a non-
negligible (∼ 5% in mass fractions) contribution from crystalline species. These results are…

Public perception of climate change: voluntary mitigation and barriers to behavior change

JC Semenza, DE Hall, DJ Wilson, BD Bontempo…- American journal of…, 2008 - Elsevier
Mitigating global climate change requires not only government action but also cooperation
from consumers. Population-based, cross-sectional surveys were conducted among 1202
respondents in Portland OR and Houston TX between June and September 2007 regarding
awareness, concern, and behavior change related to climate change. The data were
subjected to both quantitative and qualitative analyses. Awareness about climate change is
virtually universal (98% in Portland and 92% in Houston) with the vast majority reporting…

Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of postoperative nightly sildenafil citrate for the prevention of erectile dysfunction after bilateral nerve-sparing…

H Padma-Nathan, AR McCullough, LA Levine…- International journal of…, 2008 - nature.com
Four weeks after bilateral nerve-sparing radical retropubic prostatectomy, men with normal
erectile function before surgery were randomized to double-blind sildenafil (50 or 100 mg) or
placebo nightly for 36 weeks, followed by an 8-week drug-free period before assessment of
erectile function. Enrollment was prematurely ceased and only 76 men completed because,
assuming a placebo response rate similar to the published literature (for example, 34% in
meta-analysis), the 25% response at blinded interim review suggested a lack of treatment…
