Abstract
Although it is well established that polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has a significant effect on the quality of life, the data regarding the association between high body weight, acne, hirsutism, infertility, androgen, and self-consciousness are scarce. Thus, the study was aimed to determine factors influencing the level of self-consciousness in women with PCOS. In this cross-sectional study of Eighty-one women with PCOS who fulfilled the Rotterdam criteria we found that both body mass index (BMI) and the free androgen index (FAI) were correlated positively with the levels of self-consciousness (r= 0.428, p= 0.001,, r= 0.303, p= 0.006) respectively. Moreover, acne, hirsutism and infertility were also correlated positively with self-consciousness (r= 0.300, p= 0.007, r= 0.531, p= 0.001 & r= 260, p= 0.019) respectively. However, there was a weak negative correlation between SHBG and self-consciousness (r=-0.240, p= 0.31). In the regression analysis, self-consciousness was independently associated with BMI (β= 0.89, SE= 0.24, acne (β= 0.200, SE= 0.091), and hirsutism (β= 0.438, SE= 0.090).
