This study aimed at the identification of a time frame suitable for the prevention of noise
induced sleep disturbances. Curfews at the end of nights were expected to provide the best
protection; further persons with corresponding bed times were expected to profit most.
Subjects and methods. 24 students (12 women, 12 men, 21-27 yrs) slept two consecutive
weeks four nights each in the laboratory being exposed one week each to rail or road traffic
