The city of Hatra and its remains are often described by archaeologists and cultural
historians as part of the Parthian culture. To investigate this claim thoroughly, a selected
group of Hatran sculpture is analyzed to reconstruct a comprehensive image of Hatran
costume and jewelry, first to test whether its main characteristics contain sufficient specific
indigenous traits, and secondly to screen for possible affinity with other cultures.
