A treasured tipster alerted us to signage indicating that a branch of a giant Asian snack brand is coming to San Diego. Known as Juewei Duck Neck in China and Juwei King of Braise in Singapore, the chain has over 15,000 stores across Asia.

It’s landing on Convoy Street in the Plaza Del Sol center, where Eastern Dynasty and the returning China Max are also located.

Contributing to China’s pervasive snack culture, Juewei specializes in meats, seafood, and vegetables, slow-braised over low temperatures with a mix of spices and seasonings.

Mostly revolving around assorted duck parts, the menu features original flavor duck wings and duck feet, sweet and spicy duck necks, and mala (spicy and numbing) duck gizzards and duck tongues. Other snacks include braised pig ears, crawfish, beancurd skin, and lotus root.

Juewei’s stores in Asia are primarily designed for takeout, with display counters that allow customers to pick and choose from various savory selections and refrigerated cases stocked with pre-packaged snacks.
