And while increased administrative and academic supports do move the needle on this figure, as an industry we’re learning that it’s not faculty, staff, or administrators who students turn to cultivate confidence and competence on campus. It’s their peers. Join San Francisco State University and Mentor Collective for a deeper look at SFSU’s Peer2Peer program, and how it: has grown in participation by 440% since its start in 2019, creating access points and fostering belonging at scale; has engaged students, with over 100,000 text messages sent between mentors and mentees; has contributed to the institution’s retention goals by initiating nearly 25,000 needed student interventions; and has retained 4x the number of Latinx students (versus those who did not take part in the program).
