How we tested the Uppababy Vista V2 stroller

The Tester

Christian de Looper is a product reviewer that has reviewed tech, home, and other products for more than 10 years. Christian has a deep understanding of what makes a high-quality product and how to test products to ensure they are truly worth the asking price.

The Tests

We go through rigorous testing to determine what we like, what we don’t like, what’s useful, and what’s not.

Most importantly, we used the Uppababy Vista V2 in real life with a real child.

We first set up the stroller, noting how easy it is to assemble, and how easy the instructions were to follow.

We then spent hours using the stroller in all of its different modes, folding it, unfolding it, switching out the seats, and loading and unloading it into a car. We noted any pain points, what maneuvers were awkward or difficult to do with a baby or single-handed, and recorded what our infant tester seemed to balk at or dislike. We had multiple adults walk and push the stroller, load it in and out of vehicles, as well as adjust its height and use multiple product features.

What we like

It’s a stroller that can grow with your family

The easy access basket in the Uppababy Vista V2 can hold up to 30 pounds, and the canopy is UPF 50+ rated.

It’s true—the Uppababy Vista V2 may be the only stroller you ever need, no matter how many kids you have. Of course, there are some caveats to that, but the fact is that the Vista V2 can comfortably fit up to three kids, depending on their stage of life.

The Vista V2 can hold two bassinets, two toddler seats, or two infant car seats—or any variation of two of those options. Add in the standing board that can be attached to the back of the stroller, and you could potentially push three children, all at once.

It’s important to keep in mind this setup won’t work for every family. If you have a child that’s a little too young for the standing board, and then twins come along, you might struggle to fit them all on the Vista V2. However, if you have one child at a time, the theory is that by the time the third arrives, the first will be old enough to use the standing board.

I only have one child—and she’s an infant, so I mostly used the Vista V2 in bassinet mode and with a car seat. However, I did set up the toddler seat while testing the stroller.

It’s also important to note that the Vista V2 only comes with the accessories for one child. You could use the bassinet and toddler seat that come with the Vista V2; however, to do this you’ll need to buy adapters to attach the second seat. Thankfully, they only cost $30—but it might have been nice if all accessories were included in the box.

It’s relatively simple to set up

Once the Vista V2 shows up at your door, you’ll find it’s mostly easy to set up. You will need to follow the instructions that come with the stroller, and you should set aside 30 minutes or so for setup. I found the instructions easy to follow and was able to set up the stroller without any confusion. In fact, the most time-consuming part of setting up the stroller involved removing the packaging that comes with it.

For those who don’t love following written instructions, Uppababy does have a YouTube video that outlines the setup process, too—sans the packaging.

It’s easy to use

The button on the handle made it easy to adjust it to the desired height and position.

Actually using the Vista V2 is pretty simple, too. Once you learn the basic controls, you’ll find using the stroller is second nature. The Vista V2 folds up easily with the toddler seat attached, with the pull of two triggers near the handle. The stroller can’t fold up with the bassinet or car seat still attached; however, it’s easy to remove them with a simple button.

Other functions are easy, too. The brake is activated by pressing a small foot pedal on the back right wheel, and there’s a small window that shows either green or red depending on the brake position. As a relatively tall man with a relatively short wife, I appreciate the adjustable handle which can extend when I’m using the stroller, or retract when my wife is using it, by simply holding a button on the handle and pulling or pushing to the desired position.

There is tons of storage

The extra large storage is easy to access and includes one small cup holder pocket

You can never be too ready for feeding, cleaning, and changing a baby—but all that requires storage. Thankfully, the Uppababy Vista V2 has plenty.

The Vista V2 can hold up to 30 pounds of diapers, wipes, spare outfits, towels, receiving blankets, bottles, and more in its large undercarriage. The bin is easy to access and absolutely huge. You could easily store a small grocery run in there, let alone diaper bags and your own purse or backpack. There is one small pocket that’s about cup holder size, but for the most part, the storage is one huge section, and I found that to work perfectly fine for my use.

What we don’t like

It is more expensive that most strollers on the market

The included toddler seat is suitable for 3 months to 50 pounds.

The obvious downside to this stroller is the price—it’s far from cheap. The base package comes at $999.99, and that includes a bassinet and toddler seat. If you want a car seat, second toddler seat, or even the adapters to attach the bassinet and toddler seat at the same time, you’ll need to pay extra.

To be fair, this is a premium stroller. It’s strong and feature-rich. We think its bells, whistles, and capabilities make it worth its price tag, but it certainly doesn’t lighten the impact on your wallet.

This stroller is big and heavy

While the stroller is easy to fold up, it’s not as easy to lift into a car. Most users will find they can adapt to hoisting it into a car trunk, but it’s heavier than some of its competition. That’s a little heavier than Uppababy’s own Cruz V2, as well as many other options out there—but lighter than some heavy-duty options like the BOB Alterrain Pro jogging stroller. The weight can have an impact on other situations, too. If you regularly find yourself on public transportation or climbing stairs, you might find the heavier weight to be a bit exhausting.

It’s large, too. While I found that it easily fit in the trunk of an average sedan, if you have a compact car, it might be harder to store. And, while it should fit well in most entryway closets, if you don’t have a dedicated spot to store it in your home when you’re not using it, you might find it gets in the way a little more than more compact strollers might.

Should you buy the Uppababy Vista V2 stroller?

Yes, if you need a stroller for multiple kids

The Uppababy Vista V2 is an investment, not doubt. But, after using it extensively, we think it’s a worthwhile one.

For people who can afford a premium stroller and want one that can grow with their family, the Vista V2 is a good value. If it still feels expensive, a stroller makes a great group present for a baby shower, allowing multiple people to share the cost.

The Vista V2 looks and feels like it will last through many years and multiple children. Users will need to adjust to the weight and size of the stroller, and may need to buy additional accessories, but once that's done, using it is a joy.

If you only plan to have one child, or one child under age 5 at a time, the Vista V2 may not be worth it's cost, simply because it's too loaded. Instead, opt for the Cruz V2. But families with two or more tots should strongly consider the Vista V2. It's a worthwhile investment and an excellent value.
