A year after Netflix’s controversial decision to put to kibosh on password sharing, it seems that another popular streaming service is following suit. Many fans of Disney’s various properties will likely have to pony up extra cash for their favorite service, because new account rules will begin being rolled out soon. This goes for Hulu+ and ESPN+ as well.

Fortunately, there are still many streaming services where you’re able to save money by sharing passwords with those outside of your household. Here is everything we know about the streaming services that curb password sharing, as well as the services that haven’t cracked down on it yet.

Unfortunately, password sharing between friends and family is now a thing of a past for some major streaming services.

Netflix

Netflix has been cracking down on password sharing since May of last year, a turnaround from its previous “sharing is caring” outlook. Netflix curbs password sharing by only allowing up to four members of a household (determined by Netflix using an IP address, account activity, and device names) to use a specific account at a time. Those who wish to use Netflix outside of the household must be added as an extra member for an additional fee. These extra members have their own password and can only stream from one screen at once.

Disney+

Earlier this month, Disney+ sent emails to subscribers warning that Hulu has allegedly been sending emails to its users warning that a March 14 update to its terms of service will outline limitations on account sharing outside one’s household. Like Netflix, there will likely be a way to add additional members outside one’s household for a fee. More details will come on that at a later date.

Hulu

As Hulu is under the Disney+ umbrella, the streamer will also see a restrictive update to its terms of service next month. Like Disney+ users, Hulu account holders were warned of the upcoming change.

ESPN+

As ESPN+ is also owned by Disney+, the sports streaming service will also likely crack down on password sharing next month.

The primary account holder has a lot of control over what others in the household have access to, including being able to share payment information as well as the ability to remove others from the household. Keep in mind that while there are six members in the household, only three can stream at once and only two can watch the same show simultaneously.
