Product Description

Scotts® EZ Seed® Dog Spot Repair has a special salt neutralizer formula that minimizes the effects of salts from dog urine and repairs up to 100 dog spots in your lawn. Dog Spot Repair Sun and Shade consists of a combination of high performance grass seed, mulch that expands to surround the seed, a soil amendment that repairs areas burned by dog urine, tackifier to help keep seeds from washing away and a protectant to help keep seeds safe. There are three easy steps to success: 1) prep the area by removing dead grass and loosening hard soil, 2) evenly apply EZ Seed® so the area is mostly covered but bare ground is still visible, and 3) saturate with water until no more water is being absorbed and seed turns dark brown. When EZ Seed® begins to turn light brown, it's time to water again. Plant seed in the spring or fall when daily average soil temperatures are consistently between 55°F and 70°F, or air temperatures between 60°F and 80°F. For best results, keep kids, pets, and lawn mowers off newly planted seedlings until the grass is 3 inches high.

I’m updating my review with the pictures before and after using this product. 4 weeks between the first posture and the other 2.Unfortunately I did not take pictures before and after because I was so frustrated, after using so many products and never recover my backyard grass. I paid a lot of money to a company for a project to renew my backyard and they offered maintenance service to keep the grass nice and green, that never happened. Me n’ my wife started testing different products with no results, until we used this one. Usually you can see results between 4-6 weeks (in average with similar products) but we saw new grass after one week. Please consider to follow all the instructions in the bag, we also used a soil in all the area before spreading the seeds. Clean the area, remove dead grass and hard soil, spread the seeds and water it. I’m pretty sure if you follow that you will see results.

I am no gardener, and we had patchy, weedy lawn. This is SO easy to use since it’s all in one, no separate steps for applying fertilizer or adding extra soil. We used this to fill in dead spots, cover over large divots where we’d pulled out large dandelions, and over-seeded thin patchy areas. I was not at all fussy on how I put it down, just threw it onto the problem spots in a fairly thick layer and left it. Used a plastic cup as my spreader. Our soil is very dense clay. This took a while to germinate, but then came in great. In about a month we rejuvenated a pretty bad lawn with a lot less work than would have taken to put down new sod. You do need to be diligent about watering but we didn’t find that too hard. Highly recommend this product! (should mention, we ordered several bags over the month not just one 20 pound bag to do so much lawn. 20 pound bag would overseed maybe a 5x5 patchy area. If filling in a completely dead area would be more like 2x2.)

To quote old Geico commercials - this is so easy, a caveman could do it!

100% have the nicest lawn for a 5-10 block radius.

This stuff is awesome. I have used it for patch repair and also to rebuild my lawn entirely from scratch. It is PHENOMENAL.

The secret is really water - you have to get it enough water, several times a day initially. I couldn't have been as successful if it were not for automating my sprinkler system with the B-Hyve products from Orbit. Their hose attachments with their smart watering phone/WiFi apps make it hard to goof up.

I also brought in some top soil as well to do the whole lawn. you can't just throw it on packed down dirt and have it grow, you have to loosen up the top layer first.

Temperature is also big for seeding grass, and then the follow up with fertilizing the right 4 times of the year. Here in the PNW, you can throw this stuff down in early October, and old mother nature will take care of it.

And FYI... It starts off a little slow, and then looks like a horrible patchy spot... and then one day - Wah Lah! Gorgeous!

As for the money and cost - I found a deal early in the spring on the stuff, and it was like 1/2 the price.

I prepped two main dog spot areas in the same way and then sowed this seed. The area that receives more sun sprouted quickly and fully. Grass now completely covers that spot. The area in the shade sprouted a few grass blades but did not grow.

UPDATED REVIEW- This spring, I got an early start and bought a few bags of Scotts EZ seed from my local Costco. I liked how the mulch mix immediately plumped up after rain showers, doing a great job of hiding the seeds from the birds while also keeping the seeds well hydrated. With this product, there were no birds scouring the yard for seed. And in as little as about a week, I was seeing signs of life in the form of sprigs bursting forth from the mulch mix.

I was impressed enough, that I went back to Costco to get a few more bags of this EZ seed but found they were completely sold out. So I came to Amazon and bought a few more here. It's been over a month now, and I'm seeing just a few sprigs here and there, but hardly a nice dense patch of grass in the areas I was treating.

I've bought six bags of this stuff so far and am not super pleased with the patchy results of very, very fine grass. In many areas, there has been zero germination. Here's what I suggest. Go to Home Depot, Lowe's or your local farm and garden store and get a big bag of grass seed suited for your area. Get some peat moss and pour it into a wheel barrow. Mix the seed in until you get a nice seed to "mulch" ratio and spread it. You'll save a ton of money and get even better results since you can add more seed to the mix this way. The peat will keep the seeds moist and act as as good growing medium while also helping to protect from birds.

So, I'm a beginner on lawn care. Those lawn care experts would laugh or deride me. Knock yourselves out.

This EZ SEED has done a fantastic job destroying the patches further. Every spot that was treated with this stuff has gotten worse, see images. It also burnt the green grass surrounding the patches, so basically this EZ SEED made the patches bigger, why thank you. This product should be renamed as EZ RECEDE to accurately describe its intended function so that Scott can gain sales exponentially by those who wish to burn their lawns.

I've also tried Thick R' Lawn with no positive results. The only Scotts' products that worked were Northern States Seed Sun & shade mix & Fescue Mix Seeds, treated with Sta Green's top soil (Sta Green had poor 3-star review at LOWES, but it worked well for me). So, I was about to buy another 32 LBS bag of Northern Seed, only to find that the price has doubled in less than 2 weeks. I bought the 32 LBS bag for $96, now it's reaching $200. What just happened?

Not sure what is wrong with corporates & people these days.

The price for Northern States Sun & Shade Mix came down to about $96 for the 32 lbs bag so I grabbed it. That was some 3 weeks ago. With wasted money & damaged lawn, my stress level has gone up and even my hair is starting to recede. It needs reseed.
