The data for youth firearm-related mortality rates was obtained from the CDC Wonder database. The 2013 NCHS Urban-Rural Classification Scheme for Counties was used to assign one of six urbanicity categories to each county in the US. Counties were classified as Urban (Large Central Metro, Large Fringe Metro, Medium Metro or Small Metro) and Rural (Micropolitan or NonCore) in line with previous work. Youth are defined as persons 1 to 19 years of age. Shaded areas represent 95% CIs.
