Melanopsin-expressing ipRGCs are light-sensitive neurons in the retina that project to multiple regions of the brain. One such retinorecipient region is the SON, which forms a reciprocal circuit with the PVN, to release oxytocin. The release of oxytocin is required for normal synapse formation during development and impacts learning in adults. This figure was created with BioRender.
