Thrilled to share that I'm part of this year's Trade Mission VUB As one of the project leaders! 🚀 I personally joined because I think the project offers amazing opportunities to learn for the students, but also to the companies. This year, we're going on an exciting journey to Kenya and Ivory Coast during a 3-week stay at destination. This year marks the 34th edition of the Trade Mission, organized by our team at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Our team comprises around 30 dedicated master's students under the expert guidance of professors Michael Dooms, Magali Geerts, and the rest of their academic team. We're in collaboration with key stakeholders, including Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT), The Belgian Embassy in Ivory coast & Kenya, The Embassy of Ivory Coast & Kenya in Belgium, Belgian Foreign Trade Agency (BFTA), Initiatiefgroep Solvay and our extensive alumni network. Kenya and Ivory Coast were carefully chosen due to their promising markets. The assignment of the mission is up to you. From benchmarking, market research to site engineering, together with the academic team an assignment will be matched to a student. Post-mission, all participating companies will receive a final report and an end presentation. Why get involved? This opportunity brings vast benefits, from market insights to strategic expansion of your company. If you're considering new markets or growth, this is your chance! You can even get subsidies by Flanders Investment & Trade to support your cooperation with us—check eligibility on their website. 🚀 #TradeMissionVUB #GlobalExpansion 📈 Expand your business on a global scale. 🌍✨ Empowering Future Leaders in Sustainable Development! ✨🌍 A pioneering group of students at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) has embarked on a journey to shape the future of sustainable development. They've completed a voluntary course on the UN Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) and the United Nations Resource Management System (UNRMS), delivered by the International Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Resource Management for Latin America and the Caribbean. This course bridges the gap between engineering and sustainable resource management, equipping students to drive progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 🌱 Why It Matters: By integrating UNFC and UNRMS into their curriculum, UNAM students are stepping up as the next generation of engineers ready to tackle global sustainability challenges with innovative solutions. 👏 A huge shoutout to these future leaders and the International Centre of Excellence for paving the way towards a sustainable future. Let's champion sustainable development through education and collaboration! The APEC Professional Services and Mutual Recognition Community of Practice held its first session for 2024 last week, focused on ‘Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs) and the ODA (overseas development assistance) eligible economies in APEC”. How can we better understand the challenges, and support the capacity of these economies to develop and engage in MRAs? The convergence of education standards and accreditation that underpins the development of MRAs is an inherently difficult process, however there are ways in which the challenges can be managed. Pak Andi Taufan Marimba, Chairman of the Indonesian Monitoring Committee for APEC Engineers, presented a case study on Indonesia’s experience joining the Washington Accord for engineers (WA), a global agreement that makes it easier for professional engineers to become recognised to practice in other economies Indonesia’s experience demonstrates how the key elements of successful MRA-making can be brought together, including: the value of international frameworks like the WA in improving the mobility of engineers; the need for domestic efforts to promote confidence in the MRA making process, the ways in which APEC can support this, and how convergence of standards can facilitate further MRA making, such as the bilateral certification agreements between Indonesia and Australia that later followed. But key challenges remain, including how to support the capability and capacity of Indonesia and other ODA eligible economies to manage and engage in similar processes, and how to measure and promote the value of MRAs to these economies and beyond. The Community of Practice is part of a broader APEC program (visit resource page here: https://lnkd.in/gCNfqxN5) funded by DFAT, to facilitate the mobility of professionals and their services across the region, increase the knowledge and utilisation of MRAs and promote the use of the digital environment, digital credentialing and licensure across the region. New members are encouraged to join here: https://lnkd.in/gtFvSPnv. The next meeting is scheduled for the middle of the year.
