Involving your staff in safety discussions is the first step towards enhancing safety protocols. Encourage them to share their insights and experiences regarding workplace hazards and safety procedures. This direct line of communication allows for real-time feedback and fosters a sense of ownership among employees. When staff members see their suggestions being implemented, it not only improves safety outcomes but also boosts morale and commitment to following protocols.

With both perspectives ( employees + compliance advisor) a red flag report and an improvement plan must be drafted. Prioritizing is key here. Determine which red flags are legal noncompliances that could jeopardize the company and the high risk items and focus on targeting those first. On thing that has helped me in the past… If there is a quick fix that can benefit employees or a particular high demand item, also set as a priority so the team engages best with the transformation. Redrafting and redesigning the processes would be the next step. Finally make sure your communicate and train your employees on the new processes, have evidence of such trainings and reinforce continuously.

Data again is crucial. You need to test and confirm the changes you’ve made. Go back to the red flags and targeted items you identified in the beginning and measure them thoroughly. If you can implement a method to measure and acquire data effectively, do so. Assess the results and determine if confirmation of pivoting is needed. Reinforce communication with employees again.

Reporting is necessary for all work platforms. "Near misses not reported today are tommorrow's accident waiting to happen". Employees need to know that when an accident happens, there will be a victim or a casualty, and the report or the bearer of the news to the organization or the family - that is the truth.
