Sustainability and ESG has to be incorporated from day 1. Local information to community has to be a priority updating by media information has to evolve as being an active member of the community. Engaging the community in visits, educating local schools any method to show and be an active member all helps to illustrate that the provider is aware of environment impact, and the need to continually be aware of the social demands of impact on environment.

Let’s not forget the broader perspective: We are shifting to renewable energy for mainly three reasons: First to fight climate change by substituting fossile fuel. Secondly, to become independent from limited fossile energy resources and subsequently ever higher energy prices. Thirdly, to become independent from energy monopolies and to limit their financial and political power. Renewables are freedom energy in every meaning. That is why we need to use them.

This inclusive approach transforms residents from passive observers to active advocates, positioning the community as a leader in the renewable energy transition and environmental stewardship.

Apart from other benefits and perks, emphasize the pride residents will feel as leaders in sustainability. Highlight that by embracing the project, they’ll set an example for other communities, helping to create a greener, carbon-zero future. Their community’s role will be celebrated and respected, making a lasting positive impact on the environment and inspiring others to follow their lead.

La visión de largo plazo debe ser útil a la comunidad, si se dan cuenta de los beneficios del proyecto, de como la comunidad por ejemplo mejorara su escuela, de como la empresa proveerá electricidad sin cortes de suministro, que tendrán una cuenta de electricidad mas barata que la que actualmente pagan todo ello irá en el beneficio del proyecto y la aprobación que requiere.

Según mi experiencia un buen proceso participativo no garantiza el apoyo de la comunidad al proyecto de energía renovable, pero debe estar dentro de las primeras etapas del proyecto. Hay aspectos que se deberán ir analizando de acuerdo a las expectativas de la comunidad, generar consenso entre las partes e incluir diferentes medidas de mitigación. A veces con solo explicarlo claramente, se tiene la aprobación de la comunidad, ya que lo entienden y ven los beneficios que tendrán, eso paso en un proyecto de una mini hidro, la comunidad logro crear una cooperativa y la empresa de distribución local pudo construir las líneas sin objeción, todos juntos trabajando por un bien común.

However, in addition to the addressing the above points, if you can not find a convenicing reason for opposition then it is helpful to Try read between the lines, Find out if there is someone with with a an ulterior motive and vested interest, to oppose the project, Any political reasons.. Try to go bit further in to such reasons and you may be able to find the root cause to take actions.

Commit to local consultation in developing clean energy targets, policies and programmes. Genuine consultation is important for building support and minimising opposition. Consultation and engagement processes should be iterative, with opportunities to provide feedback at multiple stages.
