Tyler Sutterley

headshot of tyler sutterleyDr. Sutterley is a senior research scientist in the Polar Science Center at the University of Washington Applied Physics Laboratory. His research includes investigations to improve regional ice mass balance estimates from time‐variable gravity, investigations to improve estimates of ice sheet surface mass balance, investigations into the processes driving modern‐day changes in glacier and ice sheet surface elevation, and investigations of the processes driving regional sea level variations.

Since 2019 he has worked with PSC PI Dr. Ben Smith to help determine changes in ice sheet surface elevation using measurements from NASA’s Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite‐2 (ICESat‐2). He has helped design and evaluate airborne surveys of glaciers in Greenland and Antarctica for NASA’s Operation IceBridge mission. Dr. Sutterley has extensive experience processing airborne and satellite laser altimetry data and processing global timevariable gravity fields.

Dr. Sutterley was a NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) Fellow at Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) and guest scientist on the 2017 Operation IceBridge campaign to Antarctica. He contributed to the second Ice Sheet Mass Balance Intercomparison Exercise (IMBIE‐2) in the gravimetry and altimetry sections.
