Training Courses
We are pleased to offer the following digital based courses to support communities and projects as they increase and develop their own digital and online content.
All of the courses will be delivered between 10am and 4pm in our large open conference room in Narberth, with all applicable materials and equipment supplied unless specified. Should you wish to potentially host any of the courses at your own local venue, then we will be happy to discuss how we can support you on this local delivery.
To find out more, and see what courses are best to support your community and projects, we would like to hear from you. Contact us via information@planed.org.uk and ask for the DATRIS project.
Basic Courses
Introduction to Podcasting
Learn about the basics of setting up, recording and publishing your own podcast. We will look at preparing for recording as well as techniques for recording both virtually and face-to-face. You will have the opportunity to work with different hardware and software with examples of setups to suit every budget.
Videos for Social Media
This day course will lead you through the basics of setting up and filming short video clips that can be used on websites and social media. As with the other courses, this is taught hands-on giving you the chance to plan, shoot and complete a film ready for publishing during the session.
Basic Digital Photography
An introduction to digital photography using DSLR and mirrorless cameras. This day long, practical course will introduce the concepts of image composition, lighting, as well as shutter and aperture control. You will need to bring a camera for this session.
Further Courses
Video Editing using Adobe Premiere Pro
This course will take you through the basics of the Adobe software, showing you how to import film clips and combine them to create a short film. We will look at adding subtitles, still images and logos/watermarks. We will also cover sound in video clips, from cleaning up noisy dialogue to adding background music and voiceovers.
Audio Editing using Adobe Audition
This is a follow-on session to the Introduction to Podcasting course. You will be shown how to import audio tracks; remove unwanted sounds; record and include jingles; and then mix the various tracks together to produce a finished piece of audio suited to a specific platform ready for publishing.
Audio Editing using Audacity
Audacity is a piece of Public Domain audio editing software that is free to download and install on Windows, Mac and Linux computers. Because it is free to use it is the preferred choice of audio editor for many podcasters. This course will take you through setting up the software on your own system through to importing audio, editing it then mixing it to create a professional-sounding podcast.
Adobe Photoshop
Photoshop is the industry-standard software for cleaning up and developing digital images. It is particularly suited to the post-processing of digital photographs. In this course you will learn about the editing tools, file formats and exporting images. You will also learn about layers and layer masks for controlling image adjustments.

Reports
Communities are key to rural life and we want to encourage the widest possible participation of local people whatever their age or background.
Our Community Action Planning process supports communities to build momentum, seek consensus and push for change together. We run community visioning events that help to form Community Action Plans and also are a great chance for people to meet up and discuss the issues that matter to them in their local area.
We work with communities across Pembrokeshire to develop Action Plans for their area.
The process of developing an Action Plan brings the community together to plan for the future. It helps get projects underway, reviews progress and is a vital piece of evidence when applying for funding.
Action Plans.
- provide information about the whole community
- identifies local needs and opportunities
- outlines the changes the community wants to see
- and identifies who may be needed to help implement these changes.
A final version is agreed at a public meeting and a Community Forum is established to implement the Plan, with smaller groups working on specific projects.
