𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗲! On my way to Amsterdam's city center on January 2nd, a cyclist ahead caught my eye, his jacket reading “Sad songs make me happy.” As a fan of melancholic indie bands like The National, this simple message unexpectedly made me smile and remember that I used to write down these small things that bring unexpected joy. Interestingly, on the same day as my bicycle observation, I stumbled upon an article from Catherine Price in the The New York Times opinion section about establishing a delight practice: "𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘻𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘭𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦, 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘦𝘹𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘸𝘩𝘺 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘰 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵. 𝘍𝘢𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦, 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘱𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘸𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘮𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘴, 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘴, 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩." I’ve never really been someone to proclaim big New Year resolutions like going to the gym every day or having a green juice every morning because life somehow tends to get in the way. To be honest I still have a massive pile of papers from last year that need to be filed, our Christmas tree is still up and decorated and the dog is crunching a whole carrot into her new dog bed. However, even in the messiness of life, looking for a small moment of delight feels like a doable thing, so I will try to do that; feel free to join me in focusing on the little joys and small things this year! https://lnkd.in/dFATbutg

Have you ever heard of a Ulysses pact? Up until a month and a half ago I hadn’t either… But I needed help I got myself into a terrible habit of late night snacking 🥩 Now I know what you are thinking… Big deal it’s just some snacks and you deserve it right! Oh well, it was a little bit more than that! I was finding myself consuming about an extra 1500 cal every single night and I just couldn’t find the wheel to actually stop so… Enter that Ulysses pact Here’s a brief overview 👇 In the “Odyssey,” Ulysses wanted to hear the alluring song of the Sirens without being drawn to his death. To do this, he had his sailors plug their ears with beeswax and tie him to the mast of the ship. He instructed them not to release him regardless of how much he pleaded until they were out of danger. This way, he could listen to the Sirens’ song without succumbing to their allure. The Ulysses pact is a decision strategy in which an individual deliberately limits their future actions by creating constraints against foreseeable temptations or irrational behaviors. It’s essentially a commitment device designed to help someone uphold their long-term interests over short-term impulses. And so… The constraint that I created for myself was that out of financial nature. I told four separate friends that for every interaction of snacking that I make after 8:30 PM Pacific time that I would owe each of them $20. How did it work? Well… I haven’t broken the pact in a month and a half! And also… I haven’t felt this good physically in years! From this one simple decision a lot of wonderful things have sprung up, including increasing my cardio health. Everything that’s gone along side of this is actually tracking everything! I’m talking calories in and calories out. VO2 max etc. etc.. Anyway… I hope that this is an encouragement for you and gets you thinking about ways that you can use tools like these to get better behaviour out of yourself!

Glorious Friday Afternoon Inspiration from the Heart of Coral Gables! 🌴☀️ Happy Friday, Prime Institute Family and beyond! In the bustling heart of Coral Gables, as the week winds down, we’re not just celebrating the weekend; we’re embracing a lifestyle. A question for you: How often has a healthcare provider encouraged you to exercise more? And how often have they actually shown you exercises that fit into your hectic life? 🤔💪 That’s where we stand out at Prime Institute. We don’t just preach the benefits of exercise; we dive in and demonstrate realistic, practical ways to incorporate movement into your busy schedule. We understand that time is a luxury we’re all running short of. Telling our patients to “move more” is one thing; helping them find the time and ways to do it is another. Big shoutout to Mike, our rockstar patient, who showcased how simple tools like 3-pound wrist weights can make a significant impact on muscle growth. 🏋️♂️✨ Mike’s demonstration is a testament to our belief in achievable health goals, proving that small steps can lead to big changes. So, as we revel in another glorious Friday in Coral Gables, let’s reflect on how we’re moving our bodies today. Are we finding those moments, however brief, to engage in physical activity? Let’s inspire each other with our stories and strategies for staying active, even in our busiest days. How are YOU moving your body today? Share in the comments below! Let’s keep pushing, learning, and growing together. Amy Pearlman Michelle Pearlman, M.D. Michael Garilli #PrimeInstitute #CoralGables #ExerciseGoals #RealisticHealth #BusyLifestyleFitness

🌿 Why do we do what we do? It's simple, yet profound: we believe in easing the journey of life for our patients. Imagine a world where each step is not just a move forward but a leap towards happiness. That's the world Elena envisions and works tirelessly to create. The essence of our mission lies in the realization that healthy feet are the foundation of a fulfilled life, carrying not just the weight of our bodies but the aspirations of our souls. 🌺 Why is easing the life of our patients so important? Because every step should tell a happy story. In a world where the rush of life often leads us to neglect the parts of us that keep us grounded, we strive to remind everyone of the importance of caring for their feet. It's about more than just comfort; it's about granting the freedom to pursue life's adventures without restraint. Elena's mission, and by extension, the mission of Treat for Feet, is to transform the narrative of foot care from a chore to a cherished act of self-love. It's about bringing back the spring in your steps and ensuring every path you choose is walked with ease, confidence, and joy. We invite you to join us in this journey. Let's walk together towards a future where every step is a testament to the power of care, the strength of integrity, and the beauty of health. At Treat for Feet, we're not just treating feet; we're nurturing dreams, one step at a time.
