It aims to promote awareness and education about neurological disorders that affect people around the world. 👉 We’d like to invite you to spare 5 minutes to reflect on how much has changed in the world of neuroscience over the last few years. 🧠 𝐍𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬 There's been some debate around whether we can create new brain cells (as an adult), but the latest research suggests we can. This could bring new insights into brain plasticity and the brain's adaptive capacity. 🧠 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐆𝐮𝐭-𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐱𝐢𝐬 It's been said for a while now that ‘you are what you eat’, and there is growing evidence to back this up! It turns out there are complex and crucial connections between our gut bacteria and the brain. 🧠 𝐄𝐩𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 The fascinating field of epigenetics, which explores how external factors can influence gene expression, is currently being intensively studied also in brain cells. 🧠 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐥𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 is a recently discovered macroscopic waste disposal system (efficient removal of soluble proteins and metabolites) from the central nervous system. 🧠 𝐌𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧'𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐞 A comprehensive list of connections in a neural area (still in progress). In recent years, devices that create a direct communication pathway between the electrical activity of the brain and the external output, so-called Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), have also been intensively developed. In particular, Neuralink and its first use in a patient made a lot of noise in January. But we have a lot more projects and companies like this: Neurable, Precision Neuroscience, Synchron, Blackrock Neurotech. And there's more and more to discover. It's an amazing and dynamic field. With the use of #AI and #ML, we predict that this progress will be even faster!     🚀 Modern technologies are catalyzing the development of contemporary laboratories. We have transitioned from recording data on paper to utilizing cloud-based systems and electronic lab notebooks. The next wave of innovation focuses on controlling and leveraging this data. 🌐 Navigating technological solutions can be challenging. Nonetheless, the pharmaceutical industry will soon rely primarily on digital solutions. Cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, and IoT are already standard. Ahead of us are the advancements in AI and ML, bioprocess simulations based on Digital Twin technology, and the miniaturization of processes using lab-on-a-chip technology. 🔬 Soon, the time it takes to introduce new drugs to the market will be significantly shortened, personalized medicine will become widespread, and in silico experiments will replace most R&D work. 📊 A Pistoia Alliance study confirms that AI and ML will be key technological investments in the next two years (60% of respondents).     🚀 In 1965, Gordon Moore initiated a conversation about accelerating technology, predicting that microchip transistors would double every 18 months, with computing power doubling every two years. This observation, known as Moore's Law, has been analogously applied to various technological advancements. However, in the field of drug development, researchers Scann Christian and Jack W. Scannella observed an inverse correlation in 2012, known as Eroom's Law. Over the past years, new drug discovery rates have plummeted while the cost of bringing new therapeutics to market has skyrocketed. Currently, developing a single drug costs over $2.5 billion and takes more than 10 years. If Eroom's Law isn't overcome soon, these costs will continue to rise. 💡 The rising costs in pharmaceuticals, a result of the depletion of easily discoverable drugs, have made the development of more advanced medications more difficult and expensive. However, there is a solution. Introducing the concept of the Digital Laboratory, a transformative approach to drug development, can potentially overcome the constraints of Eroom's Law. But it's not just about the concept. It's about collaboration.
