A single drop of your blood could be a drop of life for someone else. Today is World Blood Donor Day which was celebrated at the Port Moresby General Hospital amongst senior doctors, nurses, NGOs, blood donor representatives, schools and support sponsors. The sub-theme for this event is Save a Child, Donate Blood. "A simple phrase with an important meaning. Across the developing world, it is estimated that 54% of blood transfusions are given to children who are under 5 years of age. This represents a significant contribution by blood donors to child health services in our country and across the world" as stated by Dr Anna Toti from the Paediatrics Ward, Port Moresby General Hospital. Goodman Fielder is proud to be a support sponsor providing Arthur’s Pies since 2023 to the Sir Brian Bell Foundation Ltd to help promote a culture of regular blood donation among the youth and the general public thereby increasing the sustainability of the blood donor pool. Many times, due to accidents or any other serious ailments, a person might require blood. And in those times, people who step up to donate their blood are real-life superheroes. 14th June 2024 marks World Blood Donor Day, this day is highlighted thank and recognize the voluntary blood donors who have contributed to the health and well being of our fellow countrymen in need, The day also brings to light the continuous need for regular, unpaid blood donation to achieve universal access to safe blood transfusion.
