In his article, François-Henri Désérable follows in Marlon Brando's footsteps to Tetiaroa, the world's most exclusive island-hotel. He begins with the history of Tetiaroa, evoking Bougainville's visit to Polynesia in 1768. Originally a resort for the royal Pomare dynasty, the island was later sold to a dentist. During the filming of "Mutiny on the Bounty", Brando fell in love with the atoll and bought it. For twenty years, he escaped his Hollywood life there. Désérable describes Brando's dream of making the island self-sufficient, giving life to a unique place where you can feel the soul of "Robinson Crusoe with room service and wifi". With its incredible aquatic fauna and peaceful atmosphere, the island has been compared to a Baudelaire poem. This weekend, in celebration of World Ocean Day, we collected 242 lbs (110 kg of waste) that drifted to our shores of Reiono and Tiaraunu motus with the tides. Two clean-up sessions were organized with volunteer staff to prevent this waste from returning to the sea or being ingested by local species. We reaffirm our commitment to our wonderful atoll and, most importantly, to the ocean that shelters so much life. We strive to keep our oceans clean, safe, and teeming with life thebrando.com

Happy Turtle Day ! For the past 20 years, Cécile Gaspar, founder of Te Mana o Te Moana, and her team have closely monitored the journey of sea turtles nesting in Tetiaroa. This year, members of the association have recorded over 1400 turtle tracks on the atoll and about 420 nests. Nearly 70 hatchings have been observed on Onetahi motu, where The Brando is located, and over 30,000 hatchlings have emerged on Tetiaroa atoll as of today.
