Billie Eilish Strips Down In New Video To Protest Body Shaming -- 'I Feel Your Stares'

billie eilish talks body shamers in powerful message

Billie Eilish kicked off her world tour on Monday evening in Miami with a powerful AF message about body shaming.

Since exploding onto the scene, the 18-year-old has opted for a baggier style of clothing because she has “never felt comfortable in really tiny clothes.” While she’s previously spoken out about her battle with body dysmorphia and even dealing with being sexualized as a minor, she has never expressed anything quite like this about herself.

The bad guy songstress expanded upon her previous sentiments during Monday’s concert, where she debuted an interlude video showing her stripping down to her bra and giving a speech about her body. The clip, set to an instrumental track, begins with Eilish dressed in her typical style and over the course of the clip, she removes her layers.

As heard and seen in fan videos of the brave moment, her monologue began:

“You have opinions about my opinions, about my music, about my clothes, about my body. Some people hate what I wear. Some people praise it. Some people use it to shame others. Some people use it to shame me. But I feel you watching, always, and nothing I do goes unseen. So while I feel your stares, your disapproval, or your sigh of relief, if I lived by them, I’d never be able to move.

Would you like me to be smaller? Weaker? Softer? Taller? Would you like me to be quiet? Do my shoulders provoke you? Does my chest? Am I my stomach? My hips? The body I was born with, is it not what you wanted?”

She concluded her statement:

“If I wear what is comfortable, I am not a woman. If I shed the layers, I am a slut. Though you’ve never seen my body, you still judge it and judge me for it. Why? You make assumptions about people based on their size. We decide what they’re worth. If I wear more, who decides what that makes me? What that means? Is my value based only on your perception? Or is your opinion of me not my responsibility?”

This could be the start of a whole new side of Billie! In ELLE, she explained the double-edged sword of wanting to switch up her style without fans losing respect for her:

“I’m gonna be a woman. I wanna show my body. But I know it would be a huge thing. I know people will say, ‘I’ve lost all respect for her.'”
