Fostering diverse talent

Actively compiling employment equity data is important to respond, address, and enhance opportunities.

We work to advance equity in recruitment, hiring, retention, training and promotion of faculty and staff as well as develop programs that engage underrepresented communities across all three campuses.

The Employment Equity Survey is one of the many ways that the University gathers data that informs efforts in decreasing employment gaps among underrepresented groups. Collecting employment equity data allows the University to gather information to help create and grow engaged communities.

About the Employment Equity Survey

Since the Survey’s last major revision in 2016, our community’s understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion, as well as how they might self-identify, has evolved. Updated in early 2023, the Survey helps to ensure that the identities of our community are accurately reflected, which will allow for a better understanding of who we are at specific points in time.

The updated survey provides greater insight into our community’s intersectional identities and examines:

  • Indigenous Identity
  • Racial/Ethnocultural Identity
  • Religious or Spiritual Affiliation
  • Gender Identity
  • Sexual Orientation
  • Disability

All University of Toronto employees are asked to complete the voluntary online survey. Respondents may choose to answer all or some of the questions and can select more than one answer for each question. Employees may update their information at any time. All data collected is confidential.
